I blame the theatrical release of “The Fellowship of the Ring” for truly breaking out into hives of geekdom. The hives really haven’t gone away.
Watching “Fellowship” on opening day in a beautiful, stadium-seating, fully souped-theatre, with 700 fans I didn’t even know…well, that’s my “first time I saw ‘Star Wars’” story. Just positively electric. I was so completely overwhelmed, giddy, excited, just…I coulnd’t believe anything could be this damn good. It’s the time I would ever allow another guy, whom I don’t know, to randomly give me a dead arm at a particularly cool moment without me beating the living snot out of him.
Sufficed to say, the floodgates opened. I started buying DVD for their special features alone. I became a daily reader of this site. Through I found “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “24”, and “Alias”. I geeked out over the impending release of “Star Wars: Episode 2”, and “SpiderMan”. I fully embraced the soap-opera with pyro that is World Wrestling Entertainment. I bought every issue of the “Dark Knight Returns” mini-series.
Every indication points to the fact that “The Two Towers” will be every bit as good as the first. Watching the DVD extras on “The Fellowship”’s four DVD set just proves how utterly genius the people working on it are. And since the films were all shot at once, the “can they replicate the magic” question really isn’t in play.
The girl, the roommate, and I are heading out next Thursday to see it. Counting down the days…
UPDATE:
OK, so the Gods smote me---about 2 minutes after posting this, while printing out my tickets for the show and doing a dance of joy, I spilled coffee all over my pants. Doh.
