Thought For the Morning
Sometimes I wish i could turn off my brain for a while---it would just make things easier, or, most of the time, less odd. I don't overtly try to think some of the things that I do...it just happens. I have no agency.
I'll leave you with one such thought, because I haven't made a connection like this since realizing that the chords for "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman were appropriated by the Bare Naked Ladies for the slow part of the "One Week" chorus. (Go on, listen to both back to back, you'll see what I mean.)
Anyways, I need back up on this theory:
The chorus to Evanescence's "Bring Me Back to Life" can be interchanged almost one-to-to with Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn". Seriously. Check it out, with the lyrics for "Torn" in italics counterpointing the male vocal from "Bring Me Back to Life":
(Wake me up)
I'm all out of faith
(I can?t wake up)
This is how I feel
(Save me)
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
(Wake me up)
Illusion never changed
(I can?t wake up)
Into something real
(Save me)
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
Creepy. Creepier, of course, is the fact that this association came to me while I was going to the post office.
*shrug*
When the next deadline passes here, I'll have some more hot, juicy content for y'all.
In the meantime, anybody else know of some interesting song-pairings such as this? I'm heard about the Eminem/Britney one, and that you can basically match the choruses for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Boston's "More Than a Feeling" (try it, again, creepy funny). Any others?

Even better -- dance remixes of songs usually called (Artist A) vs. (Artist B). I have a particularly amusing one which mixes Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina" with Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head."
Believe me, it will be stuck in your head all day if you listen to it once.

Either this is a hard topic or everyone's actually working today...

Yea, this is serious "Final Jeopardy" level of trivia here....

Dude, I think your regular commenters are united in their "Bored on this topic" response.

Grrr... my sister could rock the house on this question, but alas I am not her.
I think the rest of us were hoping for some MP3 examples.

In my head, this topic was gold.
Oh well.

Well, sure, because it required us to do the heavy lifting. Fie! Fie!

Ok, I heard "Bring Me to Life" this morning, and in my head started singing that Natalie Imbruglia song, and you're right, it flows really well at the chorus. But the problem is I HATE that Natalie Imbruglia song, so now "Bring Me to Life" is tainted!! Thanks, Ryan!
