Like Wet Noodles on The Ceiling
Some thoughts as I go on another short vacation…
- I had no idea how much I missed “24” until I popped in Season 3 on DVD last night. The “DA dunk…DA dunk…” sound gives me chills. I do wonder however if the “DA dunk” or the “doink doink” from “Law and Order” is the more effective sound. Have they made this a poll question on Entertainment Weekly’s website? They should.
- Watching “24” meant I didn’t have to watch the Red Sox bullpen, and since money’s semi-tight for the time being, I’m going for “not watching the 7th inning on of Red Sox games” versus “purchasing heart medication” for the time being. Around December someone’s going to write an article about the miracle that is the Sox season (no Schilling, bad Foulke, The Remlinger Experience) and wonder how we won so many games. And by that time, Graffanino will have seen more ass than a UHAUL rental truck.
- Remlinger…my God. It’s as if Selig called up Theo and said, “Keep the race close…there’s no money in this if there’s no pennant race, and we just found out that not only did Bonds did positive for steroids, he also set fire to an orphanage while on the ‘roids and killed 15 kids. We need time to cover this up.”
- Back to Entertainment Weekly: Love the mag, don’t get me wrong. But I read a 300-word review of the upcoming “Rome” miniseries that could have been summed up in one word: “Eh.” I mean, I’d love to see a review in a major magazine that just said, “Eh.” I mean, EW already had the letter grades as a shortcut: while not go whole-hog? Reviews such as “Yay!”, “Eh!” and “Ugh!” sort of get to the bottom of things, right?
- During the miniseries for “Battlestar: Galactica”, a Cylon-posing-as-human snaps a baby’s neck. During the pilot for “Firefly”, Captain Mal shoots the horse of a bad guy to trap her under its body. The Girl and I have watched both. She barely blinked an eye at the infanticide but couldn’t shake the horsey’s death for days. Today’s study question: Should I be worried?
- Speaking of “Firefly”: Jewel Staite, who plays Kaylee, is on the Top 5 now. Just…yea. Whew. Two words. Cute. Eee.
- If there’s a better video than Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” out there right now, I haven’t seen it. Then again, MTV and VH1 have conspired to only show me reality shows, “Fabulous Life Of…”, and that “Pon de Replay” song, so it’s not like I have much choice.
- So that whole thing were P. Diddy changed his name to Diddy, saying that the "P." got in the way between him and his fans...that shit actually happened, didn't it? Wasn't some fever dream? Good grief.
- Are The Click Five what happens when the Backstreet Boys and The Hives have babies?
That’s all for now…have to prep for The Girl’s “21st birthday party”. Trying to take out nice, new apartment and turn it into a dorm room by Friday night. This should be fun. Luckily, the “Animal House” posters have already been purchased, and the “Pulp Fiction” soundtrack is ready to go, so we’re about ready to party like it’s some year in the mid-90’s I won’t reveal lest I give away her age and summarily sleep on the lawn until Thanksgiving.
