Today's Study Question

Is monogamy a natural state?

I ask not out of unhappiness in my own relationship, mind you. But I did pose it about two hours ago in a bar in Davis Square, down in Cambridge. Posed it after 8 beers to two women. One married, one single. And me, stuck in the middle, with The Girl.

The Girl wasn’t there, which is probably why I could utter the question aloud at the time. After all, asking it in her presence would reek of tactlessness and stifle any potential ensuing conversation. But I asked the question, to provoke to be sure, but also because I valued the company and felt the discussion would be a good one. And my instincts proved to be correct.

But the ‘net is nothing if not conversation. A much broader, deeper, far-reaching one than could ever be achieved in a local watering hole, no matter how smart or engaging the company one might find there. So I’m opening it up to your thoughts, with no more prompting from yours truly. Don’t want to tip my own leanings, my own thoughts, my own dispositions on the matter (other than making clear above that this topic is no borne out of restlessness in my current relationship).

So I humbly step out of the way so you might make your say.

Seriously, at this point in my life, non-ogamy is seeming like a natural state...

If I knew the answer to that question, I'd be making millions right now!

I think it depends on the person. Some people need it. Some don't. Some just hate labels. Some may never admit their monogamy/polyamory prefernce(s) to anyone, but prefer to just live their lives. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't run around announcing that I'm an omnivore.
