The Wrong Definition

So remember how yesterday I waxed all prosaic about how chill I was about the Red Sox these days? Yea, scratch that. Fell off the wagon right around the oh, 18th walk tonight by the Sox pitching staff. Sure the Sox one, but I feel like I lost. I lost at least 15 months of my life. Not healthy. If only the series finale of “Veronica Mars” had aired 9-11 pm instead of 8-10 pm (thanks CW, both for apparently killing off my favorite character on “Smallville” and this, all within a week’s time), I would have been spared the nail-biting suspense. Oh well. I live to die another day.

Poking around the stations after the game, I noticed Comcast added two new high-definition channels, one for HGTV and the Food Network. The first one I get, although The Girl, herself getting her master’s in interior design, seems to think this is pointless. But she also thinks surround sound is pointless, and everyone knows how vital it is, especially when you’re deep in a dungeon fighting off orcs on your game system. But the last one: yea, I can’t see the value, quite honestly, unless you have a foot fetish and just don’t think that Contessa is barefoot enough for your liking.

Both got me thinks of stations that truly don’t ever belong on high-definition. By and large, things improve when viewing at 720p and above, so near as I can tell, but there are a few select instances where less is definitely more. Such as…

Have any of your own?
