Vizio Killed the Standard Def Star

Guess who's back...back again...McGee's back...tell a friend...

Did you see the return of Saturday Night Live this past weekend? If you didn't, here's what you missed.

I have plenty of hats, so I'm covered.

Bigger news than the return of Tina Fey to SNL? My new television. OK, this is bigger in terms of the affect to my personal life than say, the world, but still. It's 50'' of plasma goodness. You know a television is big when my wife, generally apathetic towards technology, keeps wandering into the Man Room, muttering, "That's a big f#cking TV," and then promptly walking out.

We were watching the Oscars last night in the living room, and somewhere around "Best Supporting Actor", I said, "Why the hell are we not watching this in high-def in the other room?" Rather than letting her answer, I just grabbed her by the hair, all caveman-like, and dragged her into the future of home freakin' entertainment. Going from a 27'' tube TV to a 50'' plasma is a little like going from dating Carrot Top to dating well, me. That's how big the gap is, people.

I won't lie: I may have giggled like a school-girl at least nine times while watching The Oscars. The new TV is just the pretty. Also? It's more than a little terrifying. I mean, it's really a long-term purchase, as for now, it's entirely too big for the man room. I found myself actually leaning away from the TV, which would have worked had I not been sitting on a futon abutting a wall. So, my backtracking abilities were limited at best.

Then I slipped "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" into my Playstation 3, and the line between me and the screen just dissolved, so immersed I was in the game. So much so that I'm not sure how I ended up pantless while playing. The new TV blew my pants off, people. Yes, this is a "boys with toys" thing, but I'm a big boy. And this is a big toy.

Next step? Getting a life. Might prove difficult. But at least my lack of life comes in 1080i. So I have that going for me in the meantime.
